英国皇家化学学会（Royal Society of Chemistry，简称RSC），是一个国际权威的学术机构，是化学信息的一个主要传播机构和出版商。该协会成立于1841年，是一个由约4.5万名化学研究人员、教师、工业家组成的专业学术团体，出版的期刊及数据库一向是化学领域的核心期刊和权威性的数据库。RSC期刊大部分被SCI收录，并且是被引用次数最多的化学期刊。
山东大学用户可通过访问RSC主网站在线阅览RSC的21种保持更新的电子期刊及4种数据库，全文收录年限大部分起至1997年。期刊变化情况：2004年，Geochemical Transactions 、Pesticide Outlook两本期刊从RSC转出，这两本期刊2000-2003年的内容可以免费查看。2005年，RSC新出版两种期刊Molecular BioSystems、Soft Matter，可免费查看。另外，J. Chem. Soc., Perkin Transactions 1、J. Chem. Soc., Perkin Transactions 2两种期刊内容合并至Organic & Biomolecular Chemistry当中，PhysChemComm合并至Physical Chemistry Chemical Physics当中。详见RSC电子期刊及数据库列表。

利用CALIS-CARSI Shibboleth开通服务的方法
Shibboleth是一个针对SSO（全称Single Sign On，单点登录）的开源项目。Shibboleth项目主要应用在校园内Web资源共享，以及校园间的应用系统的用户身份联合认证。国外数据库普遍支持基于Shibboleth的实名登录认证服务，以方便高校读者以实名方式在校园外直接登录和访问这些数据库，无需使用学校提供的VPN或Proxy服务。国外大多数学校都已开通了这种服务。
CALIS管理中心、高校图书馆数字资源采购联盟（DRAA）与中国教育科研网（CERNET）合作，基于CERNET高校身份认证联盟基础设施项目（CARSI），共同推出了CALIS-CARSI Shibboleth服务（简称“CALIS-CARSI服务”），旨在为我国高校图书馆提供图书馆读者在校外以实名方式登录和访问商业数据库的身份认证服务。
目前加入CALIS-CARSI服务的数据库商已有4家，分别是：美国Thomson Reuters公司、美国IEEE公司、英国皇家化学学会(RSC)和英国Nature杂志出版社。
CALIS-CARSI服务组将陆续邀请参加DRAA集团采购的数据库商，开通更多数据库的Shibboleth服务。
